Newclueless
DANIEL SMITH aka NewClueless
was born in England but has now lived almost half his life in the US.
He moved to New York City (after 5 years acclimatization upstate) in 1992,
to train as an audio engineer.
Seduced by the Williamsburg Brooklyn art scene of the time, he quickly
dropped off the paved roads of traditional music production and started
to scheme his own Newclueless system.
As Newclueless he started DJing in 1995 in the downstairs of the Knitting
Factory, as a regular guest of 'LIMINAL', the electronic trio consisting
of Danny Blume, DJ Olive and Lloop, he was a member of 'ONGOLIA', another
Williamsburg collective, where he functioned as artist/technician and
assisted the group in bringing about some memorable happenings including
creating the worlds first (probably only) 3 way hexaphonic ping pong game
and some of the most elaborately inflated parties. (WalterEgo was also
an ONGOLIAN). They pioneered multiple sound field systems, projector activated
backdrops and experimental architecture enabling visitors to experience
a multisensorial journey as they moved through the space.
He now serves as a host to 'SHARE'
, the multimedia open collaboration project that holds weekly meetings
at OPENAIR bar in Manhattans East Village.
He comes to Montréal with his NEWCLUELESS SURROUNDSYSTEM, a computer based
front end used for artist collaborations.
