Presentation of PixelACHE / Mal au Pixel electronic art festival, featuring Cause and Effect - a screening of interactive cinema. This event is an opportunity to meet some PixelACHE people and to get involved in making the festival happen in Paris in spring 2006.

8 pm: PixelACHE presentation
PixelACHE is a festival of electronic art and subcultures. It brings together a diverse crowd of artists, designers, architects, researchers and activists, all interested in experimenting with media and technology. The theme for PixelACHE 2005 & 2006 is ‘The Dot Org Boom’ (’le boom . org’), exploring the rapid growth of creative grassroot networks. The festival has its homebase in Helsinki and has so far traveled to Stockholm, New York and Montreal. In collaboration with Mains d’Œuvres, the festival will arrive in Paris in 2006. Prepare yourself for Mal au Pixel 2006!

PixelACHE festival director Juha Huuskonen will present some extracts of the PixelACHE 2005 program from an upcoming PixelACHE 2005 DVD. The presentation is followed by a discussion and introduction of some PixelACHE collaborators.

9.30 pm: Cause and Effect : interactive cinema
Cause and Effect is a hybrid between cinema and live theatre. It is a performance which consists of selection of interactive movies (total duration 90 minutes), all of which require participation from the audience. The experiments cover a range of film genres (video art, drama, non-fiction, education, music) and are presented a gang of interactive cinema enthusiasts: Chris Hales (SMARTLAB, Central St Martins College of Art, London), Teijo Pellinen (Medialab, University of Art and Design Helsinki) and Oskari Martimo (sound designer, rock musician, lecturer at Helsinki University of Technology). The presenters encourage the audience to interact in various ways: by screaming at the right moment, by chewing sweets, singing soprano, by being asked directly by microphone, by humming…

20h00 : Présentation du festival international PixelACHE 05
Le festival PixelACHE se dédie depuis 2002 aux pratiques numériques artistiques, activistes et citoyennes. Des artistes, chercheurs, médiactivistes de tous pays viennent de se réunir à Helsinki, autour du thème “the dot org boom”, pour une semaine de workshops, démonstrations et conférences, projections et installations, ainsi que des lives DJs/VJs qui sont au cœur de ce festival de toutes les cultures électroniques. Les extraits du festival seront présentés par son initiateur, Juha Huuskonen et des participants et collaborateurs actuels et construire les prochaines étapes (dont Mains d’Œuvres au printemps 2006).

21h30 : Cause and Effect : cinéma interactif
Cause and Effect est un concept de performance hybride, un programme de
90mn de films interactifs, en provenance de Finlande. 8 courts-métrages expérimentaux, couvrant différents genres (art vidéo, musique, fiction, film d’horreur, documentaire) seront présentés par trois chercheurs enthousiastes : Chris Hales (SMARTLAB, Central St Martins College of Art, Londres), Teijo Pellinen (Medialab, University of Art and Design d’Helsinki) et Oskari Martimo. Passifs s’abstenir : hurler, mâcher des bonbons, faire des vocalyses ou répondre au micro ont un impact réellement déterminant sur le cours de la situation.
