"THIS SPACE FOR RANT- The Electronic Sandwich Board Project" is a wearable dual-LCD system designed for the purpose of engaging people in public with political opinions; who's political opinions? Anyone's. Like other media-based forums for opinon (in print, internet, radio, TV, etc.), the electronic sandwich board provides a common canvas for the expression of free speech within the framework of local, regional, national or international political opinion. With the next US presidential election approaching in 2004, THIS SPACE FOR RANT is designed to do its small part against political apathy. When the system is worn by the artist in public, postcards will be given to anyone interested in including their opinion on the sign. Once filled out, the postcard can be mailed in. Later, the text of the person's political opinion will be included in the loop with those of other people

Jarryd Lowder (b. 1968) is an artist and performer working primarily with integrated video and sound. Originally from Iowa City, he now resides in New York. He has performed and shown work in New York, San Francisco, Japan, Austria, Spain, Finland and France. He works as an instructor in the MFA Computer Art department at School of Visual Arts and freelance media developer.
