Depuis quelques années, Active Suspension développe une ambitieuse énergie dans le domaine de la musique indépendante. Dépassant les genres électroniques du moment, les artistes du label tentent d’offrir de nouveaux espaces et une alternative au paysage musical actuel. Avec l’arrivée récente dans le label de formations plus folk ou indie-pop comme The Konki Duet, Davide Balula ou plus récemment l’artiste Japonais Shugo Tokumaru, la tendance pop du label se confirme. Déjà, les digressions dansantes de Hypo, les différents projets électroniques aux déstructurations précises de O.Lamm et les délicates aventures soniques de Domotic avaient placé le label dans une étrange posture de musique électronique ouverte, excentrique, résolument pop. Sans cesse abreuvée par les myriades des projets collectifs des artistes du label, la ligne artistique du label ne semble connaître d’autre identité que celle favorisée par les échanges incessants des projets qu’il a contribué à faire naître. Les collectifs Section Amour, Black’n'Mate ou MEC, invité pour l’occasion, témoignent tous d’envie d’expression en ébullition, sans autre restriction que la liberté absolue. http://www.activesuspension.org
Since some years Active Suspension develops an ambitious energy in the field of independent music. Going beyond the electronic genres of the moment, the artists of the label tempt to offer new spaces and an alternative to the world of actual music. With the recent arrival of more folk-styled or indie-pop formations like The Konki Duet, Davide Balula or more recently the artist Japonais Shugo Tokumaru, the pop tendency of the label confirmes itself. Already the dancing digressions of Hypo, the different electronic projects with the precise dis-structurations of O.Lamm and the delicate sonic adventures of Domotic had placed the label in a strange posture of open, eccentric, resolutely pop electronic music. Constantly nourrished by the inspirations of the collective projects of the label artists, the artistic direction of the label seems to know no other identity than the one supported by the never stopping exchanges of the projects to whose creation the label contributed. The collectives Section Amour, Black’n’Mate or MEC have been invited for the occasion and all testify to the pleasure of expression in turmoil, without other restriction than absolute liberty. http://www.activesuspension.org

Davide Balula est un touche-à-tout des pratiques artistiques contemporaines. Confirmant la tendance pop dans l’environnement électronique métissé du label Active Suspension, Davide a sorti en 2003 l’album « pellicule », un savoureux mélange électrique de folk mélodique et épuré, de voix à fleur de peau et d’un fond sophistiqué d’expérimentations électroniques. Un nouvel album est prévu pour 2006, il s’annonce encore plus épuré, composé d’une simple guitare acoustique et d’une voix de velours. Davide Balula is in touch with all kinds of contemporary artistic practices. In 2003 Davide released the EP « Pellicule » that emphasizes the pop tendency in the half-casted electronic environment of the label Active Suspension. It is a juicy electric mixture of melodic and purified folk with an emotional voice and a sophisticated background of electronic experimentations. A new album planned for 2006 is announced even more purified and composed with a simple acoustic guitar and a velvet voice. Hypo & EDH proposent de faire decouvrir leur nouvel album « The Correct Use of Pets », première collaboration long format entre ces 2 artistes. On y retrouve l’alchimie pop efficace présente sur Random Veneziano, à laquelle s’ajoute l’exploration d’un registre animalier absurde, une forme d’anti-lounge à la fois exotique et sombre, des titres résolument dansants et des pop songs entêtantes.
Révélé par l’album Kotva, paru en 2001 sur le label anglais Spymania (Squarepusher, Jamie Lidell), Hypo est aujourd’hui une figure emblématique du label parisien Active Suspension, pour lequel il a déjà réalisé trois albums de pop électronique atypique et décalée. A la fois ironique et sérieux, Hypo parcourt la pop musique en en malmenant les clichés, étranglant la new wave, la variété et la musique expérimentale. Si le caractère samplé de sa musique peut le rapprocher de John Oswald et V/vm, Hypo s’en démarque par la nature résolument pop de ses chansons, s’appliquant à créer des mini tubes potentiels traversés d’expérimentations.
Emmanuelle de Héricourt est musicienne et chanteuse au sein de différents projets (Les Chanteurs Américains, EDH). Après avoir sorti en 2003 un premier album (Morgen) sur le label japonais Intik, Emmanuelle a amplement collaboré au quatrième album de Hypo (Random Veneziano), sur lequel elle a notamment co-signé l’explosif « Free Days ». Travaillant principalement à l’aide de claviers analogiques, Emmanuelle compose une pop électronique à la fois légère et sombre, où s’entremêlent des voix de crooners fantomatiques, des références eighties et un chant tantôt fragile, tantôt désincarné. http://www.hypomusic.net

We find again the effective pop alchemy like on Random Veneziano, but this time they added the exploration of an absurd animal register, a kind of anti-lounge exotic and sombre at the same time, dancing rythms and songs you’ll keep in head.
Revealed by the album Kovta, published in 2001 under the english label Spymania (Squarepusher, Jamie Lidell), Hypo is today a key device of the Paris label Active Suspension, for which they already realized three albums of atypical electronic pop. Hypo covers the pop music in an ironic and serious way at the same time by manhandling the clichés, strangling the new wave, variety and experimental music. If the sampled character of his music can approach him to John Oswald and V/vm, Hypo dissociates himself from them by the pop style of his songs, applying himself to create potential mini hits crossed by experimentations.
Emmanuelle de Héricourt is a musician and singer in different projects (Les Chanteurs Américains, EDH). MEC est un projet double, une installation participative, et un trio de performers déchaînés et militants. Les deux ayant un propos commun, la défense féroce des intérêts des conducteurs de motos face à la toute puissance de la quatre roues souveraine. La musique du groupe MEC est élaborée à partir d’un matériel très limité et peu onéreux, et d’un matériau plus limité encore, la voix. Rudimentaire et sauvage, elle se révèle en concert sous des attraits violents, rythmés, et complètement militants - MDC, CAVA et MAD MAX, les trois membres casqués de MEC (sous lesquels se cachent quelques représentants autre part actifs d’une musique électronique moins directement engagée) aiment à la qualifier de motor booty gabber music! Pro-moto, anti-voitures, totalement dévoués à leur cause, MEC a déjà tourné en 2005 en Californie et au Japon, où ils ont rencontré un vif intérêt chez les motocyclistes locaux, preuve de la portée internationale de leur cause.
Le projet “Motor Karaoke” a été présenté pour la première fois en France à Paris à la galerie Glassbox, et depuis également à quelques occasions au Japon au cours du Shoboshobo bus tour 2005 en Aout dernier ou récemment dans la librairie du jour Agnès b.
Le “Motor Karaoke” est une course de moto fonctionnant au cri humain : Plus fort et plus longtemps on crie, plus vite et plus loin on fait avancer la moto. Cette véritable course de hurlements se pratique à deux et le premier parvient à faire 5 tours de circuits remporte la course.
MEC is a double project, a participative installation and a trio of ambitious and militant performers. Both of them have the same purpose – the fierce defense of the interests of motorcycle drivers facing the all-over power of the four wheel vehicles. The music of the group MEC is elaborated with the help of a very limited and little precious material, the voice. Wild and rudimentary, it reveales itself in concert with violent, rythmic and completely militant attractions - MDC, CAVA and MAD MAX, the three members with helmets of MEC like to qualify it as a motor booty gabber music ! Pro-motorcycle, anti-cars, totally devoted to their cause, MEC already toured in California and in Japan in 2005 where they met a big interest of the local motorcycle drivers that proofed of the international significance of their cause.
The project « Motor Karaoke » has been presented in France for the first time at the galery Glassbox, and since then also for some other occasions in Japan during the Shoboshobo bus tour 2005 last august or recently in the « librairie du jour Agnès b. »
The « Motor Karaoke » is a motorcycle race working like the human sream : the louder and longer you scream, the faster and further you keep going the motorcycle. This veritable race of screams is played with two gamblers and the first finishing five laps wins the race.
