Samuli Alapuranen (b.1974) lives in Helsinki, Finland. He works as a graphic designer/animator for Finnish Broadcasting Company, directs experimental short films and produces music under the moniker O Samuli A.

O Samuli A started in the mid 1990s as an exploration into the world of cheap home keyboards and other often neglected battery powered musical equipment. The instruments used may have since developed to a more sophisticated level but the love for naivistic melodies and Casio preset sounds has maintained. The melodic and melancholic lo-fi sound of O Samuli A often an essential part of Alapuranen’s video works such as the dreamy ‘Silmukka’ (2002) and the repetitive ‘Apinavideo 1 (Edit 4)’ (2003).

During the last few years O Samuli A has played live gigs in Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Russia, USA, Canada, Serbia and Montenegro.

Alapuranen is also a member of the Helsinki based Katastro.fi media art organization. He occasionally Vjs with Amfibio VJ collective and performs as a member of the 20+ -piece Helsinki Computer Orchestra.
