Homokaasu.org is a
website developed to promote artistic experiments. The site features
many experimental web applications, projects and interactive, communal
elements, such as The Rasterbator, GasGames and The Kill Everyone
Project.
Fundamental to the project are the users - a community
of 112,000 registered users in November 2005. Usually 10,000 of
them are very active and visit every week, and 1,000 visit every
other day.
'Homokaasu' is Finnish term, meaning 'gay-gas' and
refers to a
fictitious chemical substance which became popularised through the
spread of an urban myth in Helsinki during the 1980s. The myth alleged
that the Roman Catholic Church used it to gain control over people.
