Stencylvania.com is a growing photographic archive, dedicated to the documentation of the streets of Helsinki. The content is primarily photographic records of the post-graffiti phenomenon - non-commercial stickers. Midst all the cold steel and grey concrete there exists a strong and diverse eco-system. Even in a hostile environment; Helsinki's strict zero-tolerance policy against public expression, suspicious private security companies, and the long jail sentences given to arrested street artists the urban flora is flourishing. Witnessing the diverse manifestations of these 'organic lifeforms' helps me breathe, it's as if they were living plants producing oxygen! If there is an ideology informing Stencylvania, it's freedom of thought.
