APB [all points between]
The Light Surgeons (UK)
20:00 - Live performance / Theatre / 12 €
The Light Surgeons collective is best known
for their pioneering design of visual displays at clubs, commercial
events, music tours & exhibitions (including Blue Note in
London and labels like Ninja Tune, Mo'Wax, Wall
of Sound, and Metal Headz).
Their live documentary performance APB [all points between]
produced for the onedotzero
festival in London is one of their best known works and among the
definitive highlights of this year's festival. A massive amount
of projectors and display devices are used to create a live narrative
film collage, a road movie crossing four continents and blending
into a political essay.

BUSH roadshow - screening
16:00 - Screening / Theatre / 3 €
Emergency Broadcast Network and the Coldcut
& Hexstatic were pioneers of videoscratching and produced
politically provocative videos by using original news and film footage
as source material. BUSH roadshow screening features recent work
from Guerrilla News Network, Davy Force!, Mike
Nourse and Bryan Boyce, who are following the same footsteps
with their breathtaking image bombardment. The films range from
clever political commentary (for example Terror, Iraq, Weapons
by Mike Nourse) to absurd parody: A rare chance to see George W.
infiltrate the Teletubby world!
This films for this screening have been selected by Edmar Marszewski
/ Select
Media Festival, Chicago. All of the films are available on Select
Media Festival DVDs.
Duration 50 min. All films in English, without Finnish subtitles.

deKam + AVCENTRALEN
20:00 - Live performance / Theatre / 8 €
Two live audiovisual performances: a solo show by Johnny deKam
from New York and a performance by AVCENTRALEN from Stockholm.
Johnny deKam has created several popular software tools for
VJ's and is an innovative audiovisual performer himself. In Kiasma
Theatre deKam will premiere two new works for live camera, objects,
samples and synthesis using his latest software creations, a selection
of shorts, as well as a new version of an early piece for video
turntable drawing entitled '33 1/3'.
In addition, PikseliÄHKY 2003 audience will have a chance to
witness the very first performance of AVCENTRALEN, a group composed
of four established Swedish electronic artists: visual artists Olle
Huge & Martin Malm and sound artists Johan Skugge
& Andreas Tilliander. The project was born from a challenging
idea to create an audiovisual performance, where all the visual
material would be produced live without using any prerecorded material.

SOLU & dj mortenson + Kalvo & mesq
20:00 - Live performances / Theatre / 8 €
pikseliÄHKY 2003 closing event consists of two live performances: a tactile-audio-video spectacle
by Kalvo and mesq from Helsinki and a duo act by SOLU and dj mortenson
from Barcelona.
The two fellows of Kalvo (Lasse Kaikkonen and Mikko Heikkilä) are known for their musically
challenging and psycho-physically straining soundscapes. Recently they have driven it to the max by
inviting Mesq (media artist Mika Meskanen) to enhance the experience with a custom-made video show.
Mesq's live manipulation of theme footage in dialogue with the soundscape creates an intense
journey into whatever they happen to aim at on the day of the performance, be it a celebration of
early film experimenters or a tribute to the brave explorers, as it was in their recent performance.
Barcelona lends us the unconventional av-act of SOLU (Mia Mäkelä) and dj mortenson
(Heidi Mortenson, DK). They stretch their audiovisual performance set from laptops, mixers and a DV camera
to children's musical toys and even other gear such as telephone receiver to experiment with. Show's
visual style is minimal, graphical, "low tech", pixel art. Essential energies!
