Emi Maeda (JP)
Emi Maeda is born in Tokyo where she in the year of 1991 started
to play harp. In 1996 she moved to Barbican, London, to continue her studies.
Two years later she was back in Tokyo working as a concert planner at
a concert association. Since 1999 she lives in Helsinki in Finland, she
used to study composition, arrangement, and live electronics at the Sibelius
Academy. In 2001 she became the first harpist to take Doctoral studies
at the Academy. She plays harp in numerous finnish orchestras.
In the project 'Storm' together with HC Gilje she has recorded
sounds from her apartment in Helsinki. She will use a computer to process
the sounds to create a "imaginary noise landscape from Helsinki".
The sounds will be played by random and be of different type: noise, crazy
sounds, strange rhythms, water sounds, kantele, harp improvisation, distortion,
feedback, high pitch sounds etc.
Maeda works in two different fields, as a harpist in the big
orchestras and as an experimental musician. She can be described as the most
avantgarde musician from Tokyo living in Helsinki.
